The Ultimate Guide to Cao Bang: 3–4 Day Itinerary
Slow traveling is always the best option when you really want to take in every place you visit.
These 3–4 days are definitely packed with activities, but they still give you enough time to see
all the unmissable spots in the Cao Bang mountains.

What I Packed for My 3-Day, 2-Night Trip
● Water shoes or hiking sandals – If you plan to swim in the river, you’ll want them. The
rocks are slippery and sharp, and having something on your feet can save your trip from
a bad hit.
● Light jacket – Especially if you’re camping. The mountain wind at night can get brutally
cold.
● Hiking shoes – The panoramas usually mean hiking steep rocks to get to the
viewpoints. You can do it in sandals, but if it’s been raining, trust me, proper shoes are
the way to go.
Clothes I brought:
● 2 shorts (biker shorts & denim)
● 1 sweatpant or leggings
● 3 t-shirts
● 1 flannel or shirt (with sleeves to use while riding)
● 1 sweater (to sleep in the camp)
● 4 underwear
● 2 socks
Other essentials
● SPF 50 • Tanning lotion • Bug spray • Hydrating cream • Band-Aids • Stomach pills •
Ibuprofen • Dramamine • Body wash • Toilet paper • Toothbrush + toothpaste •
Hairbrush
???? Tips:
Bring cash: ATMs are not reliable and almost everywhere only takes cash. (You won't need
cash for anything but a drink or ice cream along the way)
Keep your passport and valuables at the hostel: That way you can leave the bike anywhere
without worrying. (It’s very, very safe.)
Day 1 – Arriving in Cao Bang.
If you come by sleeper bus or limousine, you’ll probably get here late afternoon. Go straight to
one of the Eco Homestays and ask to join their family dinner, or get a local recommendation for
something hearty. A pho or fried rice is perfect after a long ride. Take a hot shower, set up your
bag for tomorrow, and rest—it’s an early start.
Day 2 – First day of the Tour – 0 to 100 km
Now the adventure really begins. You can go with an easy rider (which I recommend if you just
want to vibe and take in the views) or ride yourself if you’re looking for more of a self-discovery
trip.
Breakfast is usually ready at 7:00 am. Eat well, wear comfy clothes, load up on sunscreen, and
get on the road.
Day 3 – Second day of the Tour – 100 to 230 km
The day starts with leaving the homestay around 7:30–8:00 am. First stop: the caves. The air is
cool and refreshing, and it’s a calm start to the day. After that, it’s time for the waterfalls. Yes,
they’re touristy, but they’re stunning. If you love photos, this is your spot.
Outside the waterfalls, grab a coconut water and some honey cake before continuing the ride.
By 4:00–5:00 pm you’ll reach the campsite. It’s a long day, so eat well and stay hydrated.
Dinner is either hot pot or BBQ—both perfect with the view. Angel’s Eye Mountain is something
you have to see with your own eyes. No picture or word really explains how magical it is.
Day 4 – Last Day of the Tour – 230 to 330 km
Leave camp around 7:45 am. Along the way, you’ll stop at places connected to Ho Chi Minh’s
history. By around 3:00 pm you’ll be back in Cao Bang City.
By then you’ll be exhausted, so you’ve got two options:
1. Take a sleeper bus to your next stop. Honestly, it’s way more comfortable than a limousine
and you’ll be glad to lie down.
2. Stay the night in Cao Bang Eco Travel Homestay. Ask the staff to recommend a calm dinner
spot, enjoy it with a beer, get some sleep, and take the earliest bus or limousine in the morning.
✨ Final Thoughts
Cao Bang is not just a stop, it’s a whole adventure. Between the caves, waterfalls, and
mountains, every day is tiring in the best way. Pack smart, travel slow, and let the mountains
work their magic.
