1 - When to go to Cao Bằng?  2 - What should not be missed by Cao Bằng?  3 - How many days to plan?  4 - How to get there?

Nestled in the north of Vietnam, the province of Cao Bằng is a treasure still preserved: majestic mountains, impressive waterfalls and authentic villages. But to really succeed in your stay, it is important to know when to leave, what to visit and how to organize your time on site. Here are my tips for an unforgettable experience.

1.When to go to Cao Bằng?

The region can be visited all year round, but certain periods are particularly pleasant:

- September to November: golden rice fields, spectacular waterfalls, ideal climate.

- March to May: lush vegetation, mild weather, perfect for hiking.

- Summer (June – August): very green landscapes, but hot and humid climate.

If possible, plan your visit at the end of the week to enjoy the night market on Friday and Saturday evening. The atmosphere is unique with its street food stands, local crafts and traditional shows.

2.What should not be missed by Cao Bằng?

In a few days, you can explore several natural and cultural gems:

- Ban Gioc waterfall: one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Asia, on the Chinese border.

- Cave of Nguom Ngao: an impressive underground labyrinth.

- Ethnic villages Tay and Nùng: immersion in the local culture.

- Hikes and panoramas of Trùng Khánh: breathtaking landscapes.

- Night market of Cao Bằng: to live absolutely on a Friday or Saturday evening.

3.How many days to plan?

For a complete experience, I recommend 4 days:

- Day 1: arrival and installation – after the journey, enjoy the calm of the homestay.

- Days 2 to 4: Easy Rider circuit – take a 3-day motorcycle tour with a local guide (service offered by Cao Bang Eco Homestay) to explore waterfalls, caves, villages and secret landscapes. A total immersion.

- Saturday: chill day in the city – stroll through the streets, discover the local markets, and end with a festive evening at the night market with its shows.

This mix of adventure and relaxation allows you to discover the region in depth while taking a moment to savor the local atmosphere.

4.How to get there?

Cao Bằng is easily accessible thanks to a well-developed bus network:

- Hanoi: night bus (8–9h, arrival in the morning) or day bus (longer journey but magnificent landscapes).

- Ha Giang: direct buses available, day and night.

- other cities in the North: Cat Ba, Ha Long, Sa Pa, Ninh Binh ; several connections exist, often with reliable local companies.

Tip: to make the most of the time, take a night bus on your way there and enjoy directly your day at Cao Bằng.
